PRESS RELEASE
Centara Hotels and Resorts Bangkok Convention Centre Leading the World in Sustainability for the Asian MICE Market
Centara Hotels and Resorts newest property, the Centara Bangkok Convention Centre, is taking a leadership position in Asia’s booming Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE) market by adopting a sustainability action plan to reduce their carbon footprint and increase their commitment to environmentally responsible practices.
One of Thailand’s leading five star hotel groups, Centara properties are located throughout the country, and many of their hotels have won international acclaim for their excellence in hospitality, business and service. The staff at the Convention Centre hope that by their example will inspire others to implement similar responsible practices.
The Convention Centre joined the internationally acclaimed Green Globe benchmarking and certification programme as part of their commitment to the principles of the Pacific Asia Travel Association’s CEO Challenge: Confronting Climate Change. This ground-breaking conference is due to held at the Convention Centre from April 29th-30th, and will encourage CEO’s from leading tourism organisations to find practical solutions to reduce the tourism industry’s impact on the environment.
Mr Michael Horn, General Manager of the Centara Grand and Bangkok Convention Centre at CentralWorld said this about their environmental commitment: “Our new Bangkok Convention Centre joined the internationally acclaimed Green Globe benchmarking and certification programme as part of our commitment to the principles of the Pacific Asia Travel Association’s CEO Challenge: Confronting Climate Change. From its initial conception, we at Centara Grand at CentralWorld have been committed to environmentally-sustainable development for the Convention Centre and the Hotel in the second stage. We ensured that the latest energy-saving technologies were added to the construction to reduce the Centre’s energy production, and introduced water saving devices to reduce unnecessary wastage”.
Green Globe will be providing both the management of the Bangkok Convention Centre and Centara’s corporate office with independent and comprehensive evidence of their commitment to the principles of the CEO Challenge by monitoring and benchmarking the Convention Centre operations and identifying areas for environmental and social improvements.
