The Green Globe Auditor Training Workshop, proudly sponsored by ECOLAB was held at the Eaton Hotel Hong Kong 24th – 27th February 2009. The event attracted 26 delegates from across Asia including: Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia.
The workshop facilitated by EC3 Global’s trainer Ms. Kathy Colgan featured a vibrant programme with international keynote speakers including Dr. Bruce Cords, ECOLAB’s Vice President for Environment, Food Safety and Public Health from North America; Mr. John Dick, Vice President for Langham Hotels International; and Ms. Jacqueline Francis, CEO of AJA EQS Certification Malaysia and Senior Green Globe Auditor.
The workshop provided training on the Green Globe Company Standard version 3.3 as well as the practical dimensions of Benchmarking and Certification. One of the key areas of focus at the workshop was about maintaining the integrity of the Green Globe programme delivered by EC3 Global to ensure that auditors adhere to the international principles of credible Certification Services (ISO/IEC 17021).
EC3 Global’s Certification Manager, Ms. Shey Parry, says: “In today's environment of 'greenwashing', the consumer is constantly challenged on having to decipher the green achievements and accolades organisations promote, which sometimes can be misleading and deceptive. EC3 Global works with our members to raise awareness, ensuring there is a high standard of accountability and transparency with the consumer and all key community stakeholders.
Organisations participating in the programme need to form a partnership with the consumer, educating them on both their environmental and social initiatives and sustainability vision. For example, making their Policy publically available. One of the key roles of our approved Green Globe Auditors is to impart knowledge by providing objective feedback on an organisations environmental and social performance and encouraging continual improvement and best practice.”
