With Queensland’s storm and bushfire season looming, Tourism Queensland is hosting a series of workshops which educate Queensland tourism operators on how to respond in the event of a weather related crisis such as flood, cyclone, bushfire and dust storm.

Titled Weatherproof Your Business, the workshops coach participants on how to complete a Crisis Response Plan to ensure their business is able to respond and recover quickly from a crisis.

A key deliverable of the project is a Crisis Response Toolkit that operators work through during the workshop. The Toolkit includes a series of templates and checklists that are tailored to suit the individual business. The Toolkit gets operators thinking about aspects of their business which they may not have given much consideration to in the past such as their key contacts, roles and responsibilities and insurance coverage.

The workshop also includes a session on crisis communication in which operators are educated on how to communicate both internally and externally and how to manage the media in particular.

Over the last fortnight, EC3 Global has been working with Tourism Queensland to deliver three of the Weatherproof Your Business workshops with three more taking place in Airlie Beach, Mackay and the Sunshine Coast in early December.
